NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day is usually very good, but their image of Venus transiting the sun is astounding:

It is not often that you get a true sense of how huge our pathetic little star is.

This image sequence shows Venus finishing its transit. It's interesting to look at but not as visually appealing. It shows the end of what's called the black drop effect
